A few friendly reminders about some requirements that need to be completed prior to the start of the season.

2017 VOLLEYBALL RULES MEETING

The 2017 IGHSAU volleyball rules meeting will be posted on the Arbiter IGHSAU Officials’ Central Hub on Friday, July 28.  Click on the RULES MEETING tab to view the meeting.  A reminder that ALL in-state volleyball officials must view the online rules meeting EVERY year.  All in-state officials must view the rules meeting by 11:59 p.m. on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 or prior to working their first match in order to be licensed to work volleyball in Iowa.  Out-of-state officials are only required the Iowa rules meeting if they desire to be considered for post-season assignment; however, it is recommended that out-of-state officials view the Iowa rules meeting every year.

2017 VOLLEYBALL EXAM

The 2017 IGHSAU volleyball exam will be posted on the Arbiter IGHSAU Officials’ Central Hub on Friday, July 28.  Click on the TESTING tab, and you will find the exam listed under “Open Tests.”  Your individual exam will consist of 50 randomized questions selected out of a bank of 80.  There are True/False and Multiple Choice questions.  You may download and print a .pdf containing the bank of all 80 questions by clicking the “Download PDF” link under the title of the exam.  Officials will be given three attempts to pass the exam with a score of 75% or better.  Once a passing grade is achieved, you will not be able to submit the exam again.  We recommend that out-of-state officials and non-varsity in-state officials also take the exam but it is not required.

RULES BOOKS, CASE BOOKS/OFFICIALS' MANUALS

2017 is not a mailing year for volleyball.  Please use the 2016 NFHS Volleyball Rules Book and Case Book/Officials' Manual for this season along with the 2017 IGHSAU Volleyball Adaptations and 2017 NFHS Volleyball Rules Changes.  Volleyball officials registering for the first time will receive their book packet within 10 days of registration.

ARBITER PROFILE

All officials, please be sure you complete the following information on your Arbiter profile.

1.  Log in to the IGHSAU “Official” group using the “Switch Views” function in Arbiter. Please be sure you have checked the “Ready To Be Assigned” box in the upper right part of the web page.

2.  Click on the PROFILE tab on the upper right menu bar.  Click the “Picture” link in the upper left corner of the screen under Account.  Follow the instructions on the screen to upload a current photo of yourself.  Assignors, coaches, and the IGHSAU need to know who you are, and a photo is a simple way to help us put a face with a name.

3.  While still in the PROFILE section, click the SHARING tab.  Be sure that all boxes in the “Share This Game Info”, “From These Groups”, and “With Assignors From” sections are checked.  This game information needs to be shared among your assignors and the IGHSAU.  IF YOU ARE ONLY IN ONE ARBITER GROUP, THIS SECTION WILL NOT APPLY TO YOU, AS YOU HAVE NO INFORMATION TO “SHARE.”

REGIONAL/STATE OFFICIATING INFORMATION

1.  Complete the instructions in the Arbiter Profile information above.

2.  Make sure your BLOCKS calendar for your IGHSAU group is up to date.  Regional tournament dates are: Oct. 17, 18, 23, 24, 26, 30, 31.  State tournament dates are Tuesday - Friday, Nov. 7 - 10.  If you are unable to work any of these dates, please be sure you block the date(s) in your IGHSAU group.  KEEP YOUR BLOCKS CALENDAR CURRENT THROUGHOUT THE SEASON.

3.  Click on the “PROFILE” tab, then select “Custom Fields” from the upper left side of the screen.  In the Volleyball section, include your number of varsity volleyball dates and number of varsity volleyball tournaments in the appropriate custom fields.  Also list your regular officiating partner(s) and any schools you shouldn't work in the post-season tournament series in the appropriate custom fields.

IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR POST-SEASON ASSIGNMENT, PLEASE BE SURE YOU BLOCK ALL THE REGIONAL AND STATE TOURNAMENT DATES ON ARBITER!

Please take care of these requirements before the season starts, and feel free to email sherry@ighsau.org if you have any questions.  Thank you!

Thank you!
