The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union announced that it has tabbed Chuck Brittain as its coordinator of officials for basketball.

“Chuck brings valuable experience to this position,” said IGHSAU Executive Director Jean Berger. “Chuck is a well-respected official and assigner in Iowa. He will be a great asset in the evaluation and training of basketball officials.”

Brittain will serve as the IGHSAU liaison for girls basketball officials in Iowa. He is responsible for the identification, training, evaluation and selection of officials for the IGHSAU basketball postseason series. In addition to assigning, Brittain will work with official organizations, conference and local assigning groups and will be the primary contact for NFHS rule interpretations.

“I look forward to working with the Iowa high school basketball officials and making officiating in Iowa the very best it can be,” said Brittain.

Brittain, an Earlham native, has been officiating since 1974 and is still an active football official. He worked 20 state basketball tournaments, officiating 12 state finals. His football officiating has seen him work 29 state playoffs with 12 football championship games. He has been assigning football along with boys and girls basketball officials for six conferences in northeast Iowa.

Chuck and his wife of 39 years, Candi, live in Waverly. They are the parents of three grown children and have four grandchildren.

Questions regarding basketball rules and officiating should be directed to Chuck at or via phone at (319) 239-9436.
